FIBRE AND MIXED MEDIA STUDIO ACCESS

The Yellowknife Guild of Arts and Crafts maintains a large mixed media studio dedicated to fibre and mixed media disciplines such as weaving, knitting, basketry, stained glass and silversmithing.  The studio is a bright space with numerous tables and counters and a variety of tools and equipment supporting the various disciplines.

Studio access requires current adult full membership; studio access is not available to casual or child members. Refer to the Policy - Fibre and Mixed Media Studio Access and Fees and the summaries below for details on the types of access available, associated fees, and eligibility for participation.

FIBRE AND MIXED MEDIA SCHEDULED OPEN STUDIO SESSIONS

Scheduled open studio sessions for all fibre and mixed media disciplines operate on Thursdays and Fridays on the following basis:

  • Thursday (9:00 am - 11:00 am) - weaving and other fibre arts
  • Thursday (1:00 pm - 4:00 pm) - stained glass and all other disciplines
  • Thursday (7:00 pm - 9:00 pm) - stained glass and all other disciplines
  • Friday (9:00 am - 11:00 am) - all fibre arts

Fibre arts sessions are restricted to clean and quiet disciplines such as knitting, basketry, and weaving.  Other sessions are open to all disciplines.  Additional sessions are occasionally scheduled for Friday evenings.

Each session is hosted by member with experience in one or more fibre or mixed media disciplines.  Participants are expected to be able to work independently on their own projects as the host may not have the skills necessary to assist with all disciplines.

The fee for scheduled open studio access is $40 per month payable online.  Students enrolled in a multi-session class may attend scheduled open studio sessions for free until completion of the class.  Scheduled open studio access is also available for a drop-in fee of $5 per session payable online.

Sessions may be cancelled during holiday periods or if a host is not available and do not run during the summer months.  Participants should monitor the fibre and mixed media open studio calendar for scheduled sessions.

FIBRE AND MIXED MEDIA FULL STUDIO ACCESS

Members holding full studio access privileges can use the fibre and mixed media studio space whenever the space is not in use for classes, workshops or other Guild events.  The fee for full studio access is $60 per month payable online.

Participants are encouraged to contribute approximately 15 minutes of volunteer time to cleaning and other studio chores during each visit to the studio.

Full access privileges must be approved by the mixed media rep to ensure that members using studio space independently possess the skills necessary to use available equipment and tools without supervision.  Privileges will be limited to the disciplines in which the member demonstrates experience and competency.
