If you are a true Yellowknifer, chances are you own and value some great wool socks.  And if you wear those wool socks they will – inevitably – develop holes, which makes you sad.  But cheer up – you can darn them and even give them some extra character in the process!

In this workshop you will learn how to darn socks.  You will learn which needles and yarn work best, how to shape the darn so the sock stays comfortable, where to start the darning, and how fill that hole with a woven darn that will give your socks new life.

By the end of the workshop you will likely have darned one sock and gotten a good start on its mate (maybe even finished the pair…).  You will have developed the confidence to fix your socks on your own from here on in!

We’ll also look at tools that make darning easier, in case you have a lot of great socks and you want to darn them all.  And we’ll assess which socks really aren’t worth darning, and why.

Each student will receive a small darning kit.  Students should bring socks to be darned and scissors.
