As part of our 80th anniversary celebrations, the Yellowknife Guild of Arts and Crafts plans to revisit our past by reviving some of the arts and crafts enjoyed by Guild members over the years.
We'll be offering special "throwback" classes and workshops throughout the year, so stay tuned for details on vintage activities and projects. Registration will be included in our ongoing class and workshop listings, but a few sneak peeks appear below.
UPCOMING THROWBACK CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS
| Knitting - Grandma's Slippers Remember Grandma’s slippers? Wish you still had a pair of those colorful, hard-wearing, warm and washable footsies? Using vintage and reproduction patterns with the traditional Phentex yarn, you’ll learn to knit these retro slippers and adorn them with sassy pompoms. |
| Block Printing Classes in block printing were first offered at the Guild in the 1950's. This fun craft was recently reintroduced at the Guild with a holiday card workshop and more workshops are coming soon. You'll learn to use linoleum cutters to carve your own design into a rubber mat and then print your design on cards or wrapping paper with colourful inks. |
CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS PAST AND PRESENT Over our 80-year history, the Guild has offered classes and workshops in an amazing variety of arts and crafts. All classes and workshops are made possible through the dedication of talented volunteers committed to sharing their skills with the community. Many of the disciplines represented over the years are listed below, in alphabetical order, with those currently active highlighted in bold: |
