TILEMAKING - DAWN DETARANDO

Dawn Detarando of Voyager Art & Tile visited the Yellowknife Guild of Arts and Crafts in April 2007 to present a workshop on tilemaking.  Dawn is a full-time potter based in Red Deer County, Alberta.  Her studio produces decorative ceramic tiles inspired by Canadian landscapes, flora, fauna and history.  She also creates sculptural pieces and public art.

During Dawn's weekend workshop, Guild potters carved their own tile designs in clay and then learned to use cottles and plaster to create tile molds for reproducing their designs.
