FUNCTIONAL SLAB-BUILT POTTERY - SARAH PIKE

Sarah Pike visited the Yellowknife Guild of Arts and Crafts in April 2016 to present a workshop on handbuilding functional pottery using soft slabs.  Sarah is a full-time potter living in Fernie, British Columbia.  Sarah's use of stamps and rollers to texture and emboss her pieces imbues them with attitude and a sense of motion.

Sarah presented a public slideshow which followed her journey to becoming a full-time potter.  She then lead a weekend workshop in which a number of Guild members learned and practiced her techniques for texturing soft slabs and constructing meticulous handbuilt forms.  Several members have since incorporated her methods in the development of their own work.
